Cambridge Early Music Concerts 2009

CONCERT SERIES 2009 Concert 16

THE CONSORT'S JOURNEY

Catch as Catch Can

3.00 pm, Sunday 15 November, 2009
St Bene't's Church
Catch as Catch Can, an exciting young ensemble based in the Netherlands, base their repertoire on a rich collection of renaissance chansons and madrigals, giving them a purely instrumental voice (a typical 17th-century practice), alongside instrumentally-conceived fantasias, capricci and ricercari.
Their programme traces the journey of consort music across the major European centres of renaissance music-making. It brings to light both the unique sound-world of the renaissance flute consort and its evocative partnership with the harp. This afternoon concert includes works by Josquin, Heinrich Isaac, Hayne van Ghizeghem and Vincenzo Ruffo.
Catch as Catch Can are:
Clare Beesley, Melody Yeomans, Giannantonio Ippolito (renaissance flutes),
    Sarah Ridy (renaissance harp)
Das Jagerhorn, anon.
La Plus des Plus, Josquin des Prez
Susanne un jour, Orlando di Lasso/Giovanni Bassano
