Cambridge Early Music Concerts 2009

LUTE'S HEAVENLY HARMONY

Jakob Lindberg (lute)

3.00 pm, Sunday 31 May, 2009

Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750) was appointed lutenist to the court in Dresden in 1718 and stayed in this employment for the rest of his life. He became famous throughout Europe as the finest lutenist of his time. More than 600 pieces for lute survive and this programme comprises some of his finest sonatas, along with works by Bach, Reusner and Kellner, and Scottish tunes from the Balcarres Lute Book. Jakob Lindberg plays his miraculously-preserved and restored original Rauwolf lute dating from c. 1590.
