Cambridge Early Music Concerts 2011

LE GRAND SIÈCLE

Students of the Baroque Music Summer School and members of The Parley of Instruments , dir. Peter Holman and Philip Thorby

7.30pm, Saturday 6 August, 2011

Louis XIV did not quite live for a century, but his long reign, from 1643 to 1715, spanned a hugely creative period in French art, culture and music known as Le Grand Siècle. This concert presents music from church, court and theatre, for orchestra, choir and chamber ensembles, performed using Baroque instruments by the summer school students, under the direction of their tutors, members of The Parley of Instruments and guests. The programme will include music by Charpentier, Lully and Mondonville, including characterful incidental music from the plays of Molière.
